After teaching instrumental and vocal music, rotary subjects and French immersion with the Durham District School Board for a decade, I understand first–hand that school can be a stressful place. Many students struggle with curriculum, becoming anxious and overwhelmed as they begin to fall behind. Often tests, presentations and performances cause crippling anxiety which can prevent students and musicians from reaching their true potential.
In my home studio, and in my coaching practice, I work with students and musicians to help them calm stress, target areas for growth and development, and create effective strategies to improve performance in school and in life.
As a PhD candidate in Musicology at York University, I am actively engaged in research which explores causes, effects and management strategies for performance anxiety in musicians. One effective tool for transforming anxiety into excitement is EFT, Emotional Freedom Techniques, or tapping. In addition to my research and development, I work as a teaching assistant for both undergraduate music, and education courses. I am passionate about building positive relationships with my students, and within the academic community.
